Susan Plum is a bit like a wandering minstrel. Whether in Mexico or the United States her glass works and performances live, mutate and resonate. Much of her work is inspired by light and earth.
In March of 2011 Susan assisted by Susan Alexjander, a composer from Portland, OR and Serena Hightower, a fellow Houston artist performed "Celebrating Nature." This performance originated as a way to remember the thousands of trees that died in Galveston, TX during Hurricane Ike. Susan visited Galveston and performed a ceremony there in honor of the trees as they were being cut down and removed.
The performance included wrapping a tree in Russ Pitman Park and leaving gifts of fruit, flowers and pigment around the base of the tree.
Susan's other work weaves and constructs sculptural forms out of glass. Her work can be found at the Rosenberg Art Gallery and the Corning Museum of Glass.
