Houston Artist Joseph Cohen is exhibiting with fellow Houston artist John Adelman at Avis Frank Gallery in Galveston, TX beginning August 27, 2011.
Joseph's contemplative pieces which he calls "propositions" are created using a found palette (cast off custom colors from hardware and paint stores) and found objects. He applies the paint in layers over the objects letting motion, gravity and time create the surface and incidental drips and valleys. The original objects become a substrate for the layers and layers of colored paints finished by ultra white on top. The white envelops the each part of making the piece: the movement, the passage of time, the spatial process in a calm glove leaving the viewer to contemplate it's presence.
Joseph will be traveling to France and Italy in the near future to work on projects and exhibits. His first involvement with Russ Pitman Park and Municipal Dirt was spring o
